Math + 80s glamrock = Angle Dance. The rock group “Plane Geometry” singsplains angles in this clip from Children’s Television Workshop’s Square One Television, a show dedicated to teaching math. It ran from 1987 to 1992 (if that timeframe wasn’t already very, very clear from the video).

Artist Diet Wiegman creates sculptures that might puzzle you if you only looked at the sculptures themselves. Strange constructions of trash and random objects, when illuminated by a light, cast perfect and immediately recognizable shadows, like Michael Jackson on tiptoe, Michelangelo’s David, or the Venus de Milo.

“In no way limited to shadows, the the artists career which spans nearly 50 years (most of what you see above was created in the 1980s) has also involved ceramics, paint, and photography… You can see 38 light sculptures on his blog and read a bit more over on Alafoto.”

The Adventure Time Encyclopaedia, translated by Martin Olson. Hardcover, 160 pages, 150 color illustrations. August. Geez, Louise, is this going to be cool.

Abrams will publish The Adventure Time Encyclopaedia, the first-of-its-kind, definitive guide to the show’s beloved characters and world. The book was written by Martin Olson, the voice actor for the Lord of Evil on Adventure Time, who narrates the book in character. It also features original illustrations by Renee French, Tony Millionaire, Celeste Moreno, Aisleen Romano, and Mahendra Singh, and is being designed by Sean Tejaratchi. The show’s creator, Pendleton Ward, is contributing original content to the book as well.

Created in conjunction with Cartoon Network Enterprises, The Adventure Time Encyclopaedia includes everything anyone will ever need to know about the Land of Ooo and its inhabitants—secret lore and spells, fun places you should visit and places where you will probably die, what to eat and not to eat, whom to marry and whom not to marry, how to make friends and how to destroy your enemies—plus “marginalia” and doodles by Finn, Jake, and Marceline.

Well, we know what we’ll be using for our book reports next semester.

Right off the George Parks Highway in Cantwell, Alaska this giant once upon a time Igloo stands in waiting. It is 4 stories tall and was built, I believe, in the 1970’s. It was meant to be a hotel, though it is 20 miles from the nearest city. Construction was completed on the outside but the inside was never finished. Now it is lovely attraction to passing motorist who stop and take pictures of it and with it often.

It can be seen from Google Earth or Maps check it out! 63°11’15.74”N 149°21’35.74”W

“This may surprise people, but it is the truth. In many, many ways, Hufflepuff is my favorite House. There comes a point in the final book where each House has the choice whether or not to rise to a certain challenge… The Slytherins, for reasons that are understandable, decide they’d rather not play. The Ravenclaws: some decide they will, some decide they won’t. The Hufflepuffs, virtually to a person, stay – as do the Gryffindors. Now, the Gryffindors comprise a lot of fool-hardy and show-offy people. That’s just the way it is. I’m a Gryffindor, I’m allowed to say it. There’s bravery and there’s also showboating, and sometimes the two go together. The Hufflepuffs stayed for a different reason. They weren’t trying to show off. They weren’t being reckless. That’s the essence of Hufflepuff House. Now my oldest child, my daughter Jessica, said something very profound to me not very many days ago actually. She said to me – and she, by the way, was not Sorted into Hufflepuff House – but she said to me, “I think we should all want to be Hufflepuffs.” I can only say to you that I would not be at all disappointed to be Sorted into Hufflepuff House. Roadsworth is a street artist based in Montreal who literally turns the street into his canvas with pieces that are awesome in scale, cleverness, and playful creativity.

“Though born Peter Gibson, he chose the name Roadsworth because, as he states, ‘Where Wordsworth is a poet of words, Roadsworth is a poet of roads.’

Though he started painting on the streets as a form of activism (for more bike paths), his motivation later evolved into a more personal one. It became his alternative form of expression, a creative outlet if you will. Currently his works all have an aspect of protest in them, a way for Roadsworth to comment on today’s social issues or, as he says, “simply protest against the mundaneness of the urban landscape.”
